ScanFair, PSU's Smith Memorial Center, 1825 SW Broadway, Sat 10 am-5 pm (ScanFair Dance from 7:30-11 pm), Sun 11 am-4 pm, $3-6

Celebrate Christmas Scandinavian style at the 22nd annual ScanFair. Music, arts and crafts, and dancing will be featured, including lessons for those who aren't versed in traditional Scandinavian dance. There's a Pippi Longstocking craft room, which sounds like the funnest thing ever, and then there's the food: Stuff your face with Danish aebleskiver (apple pancake balls), Norwegian lefse, and Swedish meatballs, and don't miss the pickled herring eating contest on Saturday! Holiday Ale Festival, Pioneer Courthouse Square, Thurs-Sat 11 am-10 pm, Sun noon-6 pm, free admission, $4 souvenir taster mug, $1 per taste

Booze is only thing that makes life from October through January worth living. Hot toddies, Irish coffee, hot buttered rum—and, of course, beer. The Holiday Ale Festival celebrates the delicious range of seasonal beers available each year, featuring three dozen unique winter craft brews. Not only that, but the whole shebang goes down inside a giant heated tent. Grab a taster cup, and let flavors like clove, cinnamon, and orange peel chase the holiday blues away. 'Tis the season. AH

Filbert's Café, 1937 NW 23rd, Sat Dec 2, 3-8 pm, $25

Filbert's celebrates a year in the biz with an open house party, featuring a carefully selected assortment of holiday champagnes and sparkling wines from far and wide. Appetizers and finger food will be available for noshing purposes, including artisan cheeses from Steve's Cheese shop. Half of the proceeds go to Sisters of the Road, since Filbert's is cool like that. AH
