Daniel Barrow’s “manual animations” leverage the power of the overhead projector far beyond your middle-school geometry teacher’s wildest imaginings. A mixture of static backgrounds and the artist’s deft use of shifting transparencies, the works are some of the more narrative-oriented pieces you’ll see at this year’s TBA. The Thief of Mirrors is the tale of a clown-mask-wearing jewel thief with some seriously soulful eyes. Looking for Love in the Hall of Mirrors relates the story of a “foppish man, of nebulous age” who leaves the Canadian countryside to pursue love in a Winnipeg “gay cruising park.” DIRK VANDERHART
