Meet culture jammers the Yes Men, a worldwide band of imposters who ape “big-time criminals,” i.e., corporations and government organizations, “in order to publicly humiliate them.” An example? Last June, they mimicked ExxonMobil and National Petroleum Council reps and gave a keynote speech to oil industry reps at Canada’s massive GO-EXPO conference, telling the crowd that “the oil industry could ‘keep fuel flowing’ by transforming the billions of people who die [as a result of climate catastrophe] into oil.” Hee! Their first major exhibition, featuring film clips, posters, costumes and props, debuts at this year’s T:BA.
